How can you calculate the age of your cat?

CAT , AGE OF A CAT , LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A CAT

Depending on the living conditions and breeds of cats, their life expectancy varies between thirteen and seventeen years. There are cats that reach 21 years. If we compare this life expectancy with that of a human, we see that the age of cats is relatively advanced. This comparison with the human age is not linear. A cat that is one year old, has a development comparable to that of a 15 years old Man.

Look at the diagram showing the equivalence of cat age to human age taken from Wikipedia. According to this diagram a fifteen year old cat has a development similar to that of a seventy six year old human. With this diagram you can calculate the "human" age of your cat.

The diagram showing the equivalence of cat age to human age

We would like to point out that the cat reaches maturity more quickly than the human. This is the reality that we do not see! We are used to thinking that one year of a cat's life is equivalent to 7 years of a human's life. In reality, a twelve month old cat is equivalent to a fifteen year old. A 24 month old cat already reaches adulthood, the equivalent of 24 years for a human being. In addition, one additional year ages the cat by about 4 years compared to a human.

Let's take an example to understand how to calculate your cat's age. A 9 year old cat is actually 52 years old in human terms, so 24+(4x7)=52. So a cat after 20 years is considered a centenarian. We can not necessarily say that it is an old cat because simply aging depends on several factors.

The life span of a cat:

A cat that lives outdoors has a shorter lifespan than a cat that lives in a home as a pet. Its life span is actually divided by two because of the risk of various infectious and contagious diseases and the risk of accidents. There are breeds of cats that can live longer, including the Birman (16.1 years), the Siamese (14.2 years), the British shorthair (11.8 years).

Another interesting point that you should know is that the cat lives longer than the male, and yes as in humans! Almost two years longer. An unspayed cat loses about 6 months of her life compared to a spayed cat. Kidney failure and osteoarthritis, signs of aging, appear around ten years.

The lifespan of a cat has reached 38 years and 3 days the equivalent of 169 years in human age. This duration is published in the Guiness Book of Records.
