They are actually crustaceans that eat algae from whale skin folds, living on the surface of the marine mammal body, including: whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Do not pose a threat to whales, they may be very helpful these skin lesions usually resort to genital folds, gills, eyes, and other outer vents, and feed on host tissue or fluid secretions.


Whale lice



Whale lice spend their entire life cycle on whale bodies, moving from whale to whale by touch, but never swimming in the water or floating freely to their next host. Their bodies are remarkably strong and flat, with a length of 0.08 to 0.1 inches, with 4-5 pairs of strongly swastikas and sharp abdominal thorns specially adapted to install on the host.
