Affectionate Cat Breeds that Love to Cuddle

You are looking for a new cat to cuddle with. A cat that may sense you are having a bad day and come snuggle with you to make you feel better, while you relax to the sound of their purrs. You are looking for an affectionate cat breed that shows tons of love and attention to its owners and is playful too. Today we will explore the 13 most affectionate cat breeds.

The Persian Cat

In the ancient world, dusty desert caravans journeyed westward from Persia, or modern-day Iran, carrying precious cargo. Among the rare spices and jewels on these camels was an even more precious cargo, the Persian Cat.

Beautiful with their long luxurious coat, Persian cats have sweet gentle calm personalities. Playful but never demanding, they love to pose and will drape themselves in a favorite window or chair, enhancing the decor in much the same way as a treasured painting. "Paint me like one of your French girls" Persian cats are not really very energetic. They are happy lounging on the couch, enjoy getting ear scratches or sitting in your lap. Providing a constant source of joy and delight, Persian cats build a bond with their owners that is close and enduring.

The Devon Rex

Originally from Devonshire, England, the Devon Rex has an elven, almost alien-like appearance due to a natural genetic mutation. It has a personality between a cat, dog, and a monkey. That is quite the combination. They are a social and a fun-loving breed that possesses dog-like qualities. A person must be prepared to be owned by a Devon.

A Devon will eat with you, sleep with you, follow you around the house, or jump on your lap the minute you sit down. Family members will frequently find a Devon nestled in their laps or cradled in their arms. Their playful nature means they are always up for a game of hide-and-seek or fetch.

Devons remain kittens at heart forever and have great personalities. Some say they are 99% personality and 1% cat.

The ragdoll

The name ragdoll comes from the tendency of this breed of cat to relax when held, which is also why this breed is called floppy cats. Bred-to-be-good, affectionate companions, ragdolls are truly ideal if you are looking for an adorable, easygoing cat.

Ragdolls are known to follow their humans from room to room. They may greet you at the door when you come home from work, guard you while you go to the bathroom, or sit on your lap while you work. I myself own two ragdoll cats Teemo and Arya. Docile, gentle and sweet. Both can act like puppies and like to be by my side.

Arya trying to cheer me up. This is a cat that loves affection and being very close to people. Making it ideal for children and making friends with other pets in the household. Sometimes I catch my cats doing odd things on my Pet Cameras. Petcube offers an affordable way to keep an eye on your furry friend when you are not home. Such as a camera with a treat dispenser. Or if you want a camera with a laser toy. Or you just want a simple camera.

Pet cameras can capture adorable moments in your pet's life or let you check on them while you are away from home. It has been one of my best investments, I can be 8,000 miles away from my cats and still feel close to them. The cameras are now on sale at a great discount for Black Friday.

The popularity of Ragdoll Cats has skyrocketed in recent years. In 2022 the Cat Fanciers' Association or (CFA) has determined the Ragdoll breed as the most popular cat breed in the world for four years straight. If you are looking for a cuddly little teddy bear with a super soft fluffy coat, look no further than the Ragdoll Cat. The Sphynx

Bred from a natural genetic mutation where cats are born without hair, the texture of Sphynx skin can feel like a fuzzy warm peach or a buttery smooth leather purse. Because sphynx cats have no hair, they are often cold and need a source of heat to keep them comfortable. This is where humans come in. This mutually beneficial relationship gives these cats warmth while their humans reap the cuddly benefits. They'll also cuddle with you beneath the covers at night and perch on your lap during the day.

Sphynx cats are extremely lovable, known to perform silly things and can be downright clumsy in their attempts to get your attention. They also have abundant energy and are mischievous, always wanting to be with you, on you or showing off for you. Because of the lack of hair that would normally absorb body oils, Sphynx Cats need periodic bathing and ear cleaning.

The Mainecoon Cats

Mainecoon Cats are native to America and were first recognized as a specific breed in Maine where it was named the official cat of the state. Traditionally they were used to hunt mice on farms. Don’t let their big size fool you, Mainecoon Cats are agile intelligent hunters. Just ask the mice!

Known as the “Gentle Giant”, Mainecoon cats are a social cat that is good with children and other pets. Whether that means lounging on the couch or sitting at the table for dinner. They are intelligent, trainable, and sometimes described as “dog like”.

The Scottish Fold is all about the ears. A random mutation happened naturally that caused their ears to fold forward. However, their ears are not the only special thing about them. Scottish folds are social and affectionate and don't like to be alone. Therefore, if you are often away from home, this breed of Scottish folds may not be for you. But if you have extra time to spare, you might have found your match. Scottish Folds have tiny voices and are not extremely vocal, but adore human companionship and display this in their own quiet way.

The Russian Blue

Little is known about the origin of the Russian Blue Breed. Rumors have said the breed is descended from the cats kept by the Russian Czars or originated in the Archangel Isles in northern Russia. The Russian blue is known for the striking green eyes and silvery blue coat.

The coat color is an even, bright blue, and each guard hair appears as if dipped in silver, giving it a lustrous appearance. The coat is also quite thick and as a result Russian Blue cats shed very little around the house.

The Russian Blue is a gentle cat with a somewhat shy nature around strangers, but are extremely devoted to and affectionate with their loved ones The intelligent, playful disposition, and affectionate nature is what makes the Russian Blue a perfect pet for most households.

The Exotic Shorthair

The Exotic Shorthair is an ideal breed that produces a quiet, sweet, peaceful and loyal companion. They are a perfect breed for active people who like the look of Persians but don't have time to deal with the high grooming needs.

Their wonderful coat requires much less combing than a Persian’s and will not mat or tangle. The Exotic personality is extremely friendly, with characteristics akin to those of a dog or kitten. Since the breed personality is so calm, the Exotic Shorthair makes a wonderful lap cat. You’ll enjoy snuggling up next to this bundle of joy and listening to him purr himself to sleep. The Exotic is a wonderful addition to any family.

The Bombay cat

At first glance, as an expiditor you may confuse a Bombay cat with another animal that is a miniature panther. This breed is still relatively rare in North America. Owners of this breed appreciate the fact that these cats are so affectionate and people-oriented.

They are generally friendly to strangers, so don't be startled if he beats you to the door to greet houseguests. Their black coat smoothes out their beautiful copper eyes and also sets them apart. They can be trained on a leash and most cats of this breed enjoy playing ball. They generally get along well with children, the elderly and other pets, and adapt well to an active lifestyle.

The American Shorthair

The American Shorthair breed originated from cats following settlers from Europe to North America. The cats helped the early Americans to hunt rats eating their crops.
